  • A militant Islamic political group called the Taliban (aka Taliban) gained control over most of Afghanistan in the mid-1990.

  • The most original aims were to restore peace, disarm the population, enforce Shari law and defend the integrity and Islamic character of Afghanistan.
  • Only 3 countries recognized the Taliban as a legal government.
    • Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

History
  • Taliban fought to end the lawlessness and suffering from years of civil war in Afghanistan, since 1989 by the struggles for power.
  • In April 1992 Mujahideen (Freedom Fighters formed by U.S., Pakistan, China, Iran, and Saudi Arabia) drive Soviet forces out of Afghanistan.
  • So they drew forces form Afghan and Pakistani Muslim students, Afghan refugees (who fled to Pakistan), former rebel fighters, and former Communist soldiers to create the Taliban.
  • In September 1994 The Taliban are appointed by Pakistan to protect a trade, but quickly emerge as one of the strongest factions.
  • By the mid-1990's, the Taliban gained prominence as a faction in 1994 when they were able to impose order amid chaos in the Kandahar region.
  • From 1994 onward the Taliban seize to control Afghanistan. In November 1994, the Taliban seize control of the second most largest city, Kandahar. Throughout 1995 the Taliban strengthen their control over the southern Afghanistan and took the western city of Herat.
  • By September 1996, Taliban forces had entered Kabul, overthrown then-president Burhanuddin Rabbani and forced a strict interpretation of Islamic law.
  • Some of the people in Kabul fled others citizens in Kabul are waited to see if the Taliban can unite the country after decades of internal conflict.
  • In 1997, Taliban authorities changed the official name of the country to the Islamic State of Afghanistan.

  • In 1998 United State accused Taliban for hiding Osama bin Laden, who was connected with the terrorist attacks against two U.S. embassies in Africa.
  • In 2001, the 9/11 happened and United States Accused bin Laden of carrying out attacks against the World Trade Center in New York and Pentagon Building near Washington D.C..

The Northern Alliance is a military-political umbrella organization created by the states of Afghanistan. This group was made to fight the Taliban.

The Taliban entered Kabul in 1996, the citizen of Kabul thought nothing could be worst then the Northern Alliance so when the Taliban came they thought there would be peace again.

Kite fighting was banned in Afghanistan from 1994 to 2002 because the Taliban it is an activity that took the minds of people away from the fundamental Islamic beliefs and codes of conduct being emphasized by the Mullahs at the time.

In September of 1997 the Taliban went on a rage and massacred about 2000 Hazaras in Mazar-i-Sharif.

Vice and Virtue Ministry was a government of the Taliban in Afghanistan. They set and enforced the rules and laws required to be followed in society.
